하시는 그 일

유다 자손이 이겼으니 이는 그들이 그들의 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 의지하였음이라-역대하 13:18
호송차량이 떠나려고 기다리고 있는 동안 한 젊은 해병이 급하게 그의 팀 상관의 차량 창문을 두드렸습니다. 하사관은 짜증스럽게 창문을 내리며 “뭐야?”하고 물었습니다.
“그것을 하셔야지요.”라고 해병이 말했습니다. “무슨 일?” 하고 상사가 물었습니다. “아시지 않습니까, 하시는 그 일이요.”라고 해병이 대답했습니다.
하사관은 문득 깨달았습니다. 그는 호송차량의 안전을 위해서 항상 기도했는데, 이번엔 하지 않았던 것입니다. 그는 의무감을 갖고 군용차량 밖으로 나와서 그의 해병들을 위해서 기도했습니다. 그 해병은 기도하는 지휘관의 가치를 알고 있었습니다.
옛 유다 왕국 시대의 아비얌은 위대한 왕으로 돋보이지는 않습니다. 열왕기상 15장 3절은 “그의 마음이…그의 하나님 여호와 앞에 온전하지 못하였다”라고 말하고 있습니다. 유다 왕국이 숫자적으로 두 배가 많은 이스라엘 왕국을 대항하여 전쟁을 준비할 때, 아비얌이 분명히 알고 있는 한 가지가 있었습니다. 그것은 이스라엘 왕국의 열 지파가 하나님의 제사장들을 쫓아내고 이방신들을 경배했던 반면(대하 13:8-9), 유다왕국의 신실한 백성들은 계속해서 하나님을 경배해왔다(13:10-12)는 것이었습니다. 그래서 아비얌은 확신을 가지고 유일하신 참 하나님께로 향했습니다.
아비얌의 얼룩진 역사는 분명 심각한 손상을 야기했습니다. 그러나 그는 위기의 상황에서 어디를 향해야 할지를 알았고, “그들이 그들의 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 의지하였”(18절)기에 그의 군대는 완전한 승리를 거둘 수 있었습니다. 우리 하나님은 그분께로 나아와 의지하는 사람은 누구나 환영하십니다.
나는 기도가 행운을 가져다주는 주문이 아님을 압니다. 그러나 주님보다 이야기하기에 더 나은 대상이 없기에 지금 주님 앞으로 나아갑니다. 오늘 나의 모든 환경 속에서 주님을 신뢰합니다.
하나님은 믿음으로 그에게 향하는 자들을 결코 외면하지 않으신다.

As the convoy waited to roll out, a young marine rapped urgently on the window of his team leader’s vehicle. Irritated, the sergeant rolled down his window. “What?”
“You gotta do that thing,” the marine said. “What thing?” asked the sergeant. “You know, that thing you do,” replied the marine.
Then it dawned on the sergeant. He always prayed for the convoy’s safety, but this time he hadn’t. So he dutifully climbed out of the Humvee and prayed for his marines. The marine understood the value of his praying leader.
In ancient Judah, Abijah doesn’t stand out as a great king. First Kings 15:3 tells us, “His heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God.” But as Judah prepared for war against Israel, outnumbered two to one, Abijah knew this much: Faithful people in his kingdom of Judah had continued worshiping God (2 Chron. 13:10–12), while the ten tribes of Israel had driven out the priests of God and worshiped pagan gods instead (vv. 8–9). So Abijah turned confidently to the one true God.
Surely Abijah’s checkered history had caused grave damage. But he knew where to turn in the crisis, and his army won soundly “because they relied on the Lord, the God of their ancestors” (v. 18). Our God welcomes whoever comes to Him and relies on Him. Tim Gustafson
I know that prayer isn’t a good-luck charm. But I come to You now, Lord, because there’s no one better to talk to. I trust You with all of my circumstances today.
God will never turn away whoever turns to Him in faith.
