내가 알아야 할 것?

콘서트 도중에, 가수 겸 작곡가인 데이비드 윌콕스는 그가 어떻게 노래를 작곡하는지 묻는 청중의 질문에 답변하였습니다. 그는 말하기를, 곡을 쓰는 데에 세 가지 필요한 것이 있는데, 그것은 조용한 방, 빈 종이, 그리고 “내가 알아야 할 것이 있는가?”라는 질문이라고 했습니다. 이것은 우리가 예수님의 제자로서 매일의 삶에서 주님의 계획을 간절히 구하는 데에도 아주 훌륭한 접근방법이라고 생각되었습니다.
예수님의 전 사역기간 동안, 주님은 시간을 내어 혼자 기도하셨습니다. 떡 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리로 오천 명을 먹이신 후, 예수님은 자기가 무리를 돌려보내는 동안 제자들을 배를 타고 갈릴리 바다 건너편으로 가게 하셨습니다(마 14:22). “[예수께서] 무리를 보내신 후에 기도하러 따로 산에 올라가시다 저물매 거기 혼자 계시더니” (23절).
주 예수께서도 혼자 하나님과 함께 계셔야 할 필요를 느끼셨다면, 우리의 마음을 하나님께 쏟아내고, 그분의 말씀을 묵상하며, 그분의 길을 따라가도록 준비하기 위한 이런 혼자만의 시간이 우리에게는 얼마나 더 많이 필요할까요. 조용한 방은 어디든 방해 없이 우리가 주님께 집중할 수 있는 곳입니다. 빈 종이는 열린 마음과 한 장의 빈 종이, 그리고 기꺼이 듣고자 하는 태도입니다. 그리고 내가 알아야 할 것이 있습니까? “주님, 성령님을 통해, 기록된 주님의 말씀을 통해, 그리고 주님의 인도에 대한 확신을 통해 저에게 말씀해주소서.”
예수님은 그 조용한 산 위에서 사나운 폭풍 가운데로 내려오셨습니다. 하나님 아버지께서 주님께 원하시는 것이 무엇인지를 정확히 아시고 말입니다(24-27절).
- 사랑하는 하나님, 가끔씩 주의가 흐트러져 죄에 빠지곤 합니다. 주님이 경고하시는 것을 듣고, 주님의 말씀에 복종할 수 있도록 도와주소서. 저 자신의 충동으로부터 보호해주시고, 주님의 모습처럼 되게 해주소서. 제 안에서 역사하시는 주님께 감사드립니다.
능력을 얻는 가장 좋은 경우는 하나님과 함께 시간을 갖는 것이다.

During a concert, singer-songwriter David Wilcox responded to a question from the audience about how he composes songs. He said there are three aspects to his process: a quiet room, an empty page, and the question, “Is there something I should know?” It struck me as a wonderful approach for followers of Jesus as we seek the Lord’s plan for our lives each day.
Throughout Jesus’s public ministry, He took time to be alone in prayer. After feeding 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish, He sent His disciples to cross the Sea of Galilee by boat while He dismissed the crowd (Matt. 14:22). “After [Jesus] had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone” (v. 23).
If the Lord Jesus saw the need to be alone with His Father, how much more do we need a daily time of solitude to pour out our hearts to God, ponder His Word, and prepare to follow His directions.
A quiet room—anywhere we can focus on the Lord without distractions.
An empty page—a receptive mind, a blank sheet of paper, a willingness to listen.
Is there something I should know? “Lord, speak to me by Your Spirit, Your written Word, and the assurance of Your direction.”
From that quiet hillside, Jesus descended into a violent storm, knowing exactly what His Father wanted Him to do (vv. 24-27). —David McCasland
Taking time to be with God is the best place to find strength.
